Do I have to register?

Registration is not required to view current topics on the Bulletin Board; however, if you wish to post a new topic or reply to an existing topic registration is required. Registration is free and only takes a few moments. The only required fields are your UserName, which may be your real name or a nickname, and a valid e-mail address. The information you provide during registration is not outsourced or used for any advertising by The Emperor's Star Wars Board. If you believe someone is sending you advertisements as a result of the information you provided through your registration, please notify us immediately.

I used to be registered at the board before and now I’m not... why?

When we upgraded the software we lost some member accounts. If it appears that yours was one of those, please email us and we'll re-establish your account for you manually. We apologize for the inconvenience. We didn’t lose you on purpose.

What is a moderator?

Moderators control individual forums. They may edit, delete, or prune any posts in their forums. If you have a question about a particular forum, you should direct it to your forum moderator.

Why am I a recruit? How do I become something else?

Members that are new to the messageboard are given the title Recruit until they've proven themselves as contributing board members-- it takes 50 posts to graduate from Recruit to Stormtrooper.

Part of the reason you are designated as a recruit is so that people know you are new here-- most members welcome newcomers with open arms. They will also be a bit more forgiving if you make an error in your netiquette when you first start out because the Recruit title lets them know that you are new.

Some of my friends are Jedi and Sith. Why am I an Imperial?

We are starting a new system which will allow you all to choose your own path-- no one can choose it for you. In the interest of allowing our Darths to be Sith Lords rather than Jedi Knights, we now have five paths for board membership.

  • Our default pathway is the Imperial Forces. (Your Emperor wants YOU for the Imperial Forces.) Unless you request a different path, you will be recruited for service as a Stormtrooper and will advance through the ranks of the Imperial Navy from that point.
  • For the more free-willed, we understand that the discipline of military service isn't for everyone... if you would prefer to advance your cause in a less regulated fashion, you may wish to become a Mercenary. If you aspire to be a Bounty Hunter (even though we don't need their scum) or to become a truly Vile Gangster, this is the choice for you. And if you keep your operation small enough, it may escape the notice of the Empire.
  • If you have the ability to wield the Force, you may choose to serve your Emperor in the capacity of Sith Apprentice. As you attempt to give in to your aggressive feelings, boy, you may advance to higher levels of the Sith Order, and someday attempt to take your father's place at the Emperor's side.
  • A different alternative exists for Force users who are calm, at peace, passive. If you can feel the Force flowing through you-- the rock, the tree, the ship; if you want to be a Jedi like your father; if Qui-Gon swears that you will be trained (and the Council gives in) then you're on your way to the Jedi Temple to start your training (you hope). So be it-- Jedi!
  • And for those of you who insist on believing that rebellion against the Empire is your only hope, join that pitiful band known as the Rebel Alliance. As a member of the Rebel Alliance Forces, you can continue to believe that there is still good in us-- that you can save us. Advance through the RAF and try it, you Rebel scum.

We are in complete control of your planets now . . . the Emperors and their Grand Moffs believe that fear will keep the local systems in line . . . fear of being turned into Bantha Poodoo.

For the prosaic among you:

No, we're not seriously saying that you can give in to your anger on the board if you're a Sith. We're not saying you get to live outside the law if you choose to be a mercenary. The TOS still stands. We're just creating different titles for a bit more individuality.

All you have to do is let us know which path you've chosen, and we'll set you up with whatever membership level you've attained in that pathway.

What does it take to change membership levels? (How do I become an Admiral instead of a stormtrooper, for example.)

Post total determines membership level. Please do not post empty posts to increase your total, however. It won't work.

You must choose your own path-- no one can choose it for you.
Membership levels are as follows:
Posts The Sith The Jedi Rebel Alliance Forces Imperial Forces Scum and Villainy
51-150 Sith Apprentice Jedi Apprentice RAF Soldier Stormtrooper Mercenary
151-500 Sith Lord Jedi Knight RAF Commander IF Captain Bounty Hunter
501-millions Sith Master Jedi Master RAF General IF Admiral Vile Gangster

Why are there a few people with titles that aren't on the list? Can I have one?

These people have special titles because the Emperor said so. The Emperor does not want to make custom titles for everyone!

Most members with custom titles are moderators, which is usually the reason those custom title requests were granted.

Unless the Emperor offers you a special title, it is a fairly safe assumption that we won't be changing your title for you.

Is the Emperor actually George Lucas? Is one of the moderators actually a LFL insider? Is this board actually a spawn of Lucasfilm, so that they can keep track of fan attitudes/reactions??

We wish!

I emailed one of the moderators, and he/she never replied to me. How come?

Could be any of several reasons, but here are some of the most likely:

  • Most of the moderators are cyber-junkies. They tend to get a lot of email. It may take them awhile to get to your message, especially if time isn't deemed a big issue for your problem.
  • It is possible that the message was mistakenly deleted without being read. If you don't receive a reply within a few days, try re-sending your message.
  • The moderators are regular people with real jobs and responsibilities. If you are asking a question that could be answered with common sense or that appears somewhere in these FAQ pages, the moderator probably won't give your message a very high priority.

I need to talk to one of the members of the messageboard, and he/she doesn't seem to be posting. What should I do??

For starters, don't start posting all over the board about it!!

This is not a chatroom. This is a messageboard. Many members only check new posts once a day. Some members check less often than that. Email should be your primary source when trying to contact an individual member.

Please be polite by refraining from "Where are you ______?" posts/threads.

Why isn't there a chatroom associated with this messageboard?

At one time, there was a chatroom here. It was used very little, and eventually it was cut, due to lack of interest. We just aren't online at the same time, so it isn't practical.

How do I know what forum to post my new topic in?

Try using the Choose Forum page. You can access all the forums from that page, which gives a short description of each. This can really help on those Where does this belong? questions.

If you still aren't sure where to post, try asking your friendly neighborhood moderator.

What is the icon on the post?

This is the profile icon. Clicking on it will give you some information about the member whose post you are looking at.

Why are some of the folders on fire?

The fire icon indicates that a thread has received 25 or more posts.

Why are some of the folders blue?

The blue folder indicates that the thread has received new posts since your last login.

Why do some messageboard members use smiley-faces in their posts so much?

The emoticons we use here are available because they help greatly in conveying the tone of a post.

It is always more difficult to be understood in a messageboard environment than it would be in real life, because the people you "talk" to don't hear your voice-- we use emoticons to let people know if we are serious or kidding, happy or sad, etc. Using the icons helps facilitate communication.

Overuse of smilies can also be a problem, however. Please don't post emoticons excessively. It is distracting. Use common sense.
